OSTEOPATHY
Our first podcast interview was with Dr. Philip Slocum, Dean
of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine,
on July 17, 2008. Dr. Slocum graduated from KCOM in 1976 and then
completed his residency, training in internal medicine and critical care
medicine at the Maine Medicine Center in Portland, Maine. He chaired the
Department of Medicine at the University of New England College of Osteopathic
Medicine and was Chief of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at the University
of North Texas Health Sciences in Fort Worth, Texas before becoming Dean at KCOM.
His is a Fellow in several major medical colleges and has done leading research
on tuberculosis. His interests now revolve around medical education
reform. Our conversation was on the uniquely American medical system of
Osteopathy and the benefits it offers patients today.

CHIROPRACTIC
My second podcast on July 22nd was with Dr. Kurt Wood,
Executive Dean – Clinic Affairs, Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport,
Iowa. He came to Palmer from Northwestern Health Sciences University where he
was Associate Dean – Clinical Services. At Northwestern he also served as
Associate Dean and earlier as Chair and Professor at the College of
Chiropractic. In addition he has written several articles for professional
journals. He received his
B.S.-Biology and B.S. Chemistry from Upper Iowa University in 1976 and his
Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1979.

HEALING TOUCH
Healing Touch is one of the newer types of complementary therapy but it's been
associated with the American Holistic Nurses Association since the beginning.
My conversation was with Lisa Anselme, Executive Director at Healing Touch

ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE
On November 13, 2008 I spoke with Robert Rickover, author of Fitness
Without Stress - A Guide To The Alexander Technique, and an Alexander
Technique teacher for 28 years. We talked about how F. M. Alexander
developed this process to solve his own health problems 100 years ago and how
popular it's become in the performing arts. Last summer there was a major
study published in Great Britain showing that A.T. is better for low back pain
than either chiropractic care or the traditional pain killer + muscle relaxers +
physical therapy treatment. Another source of information is the

NEW BIOLOGY
Bruce Lipton, Ph.D. is a cellular biologist whose career took him from the
University of Wisconsin's Medical School to Stanford University's Medical

BONNIE PRUDDEN MYOTHERAPY
On June 5, 2009 I had the privilege to talk with a legend in the world of
fitness, Bonnie Prudden. She not only wrote the first book on physical
fitness, she followed it with 18 more. Her study on the condition of
children led President Eisenhower to create the President's Council on Fitness
and in 2007 she received their Lifetime Achievement Award. Bonnie has
created 6 exercise albums, hosted the first regular exercise spots on national
television, had her own syndicated TV show and has set up hundreds of exercise
and fitness programs across the country. In 1976 she discovered she could
relieve pain by applying pressure to trigger points and in 1980 published
PAIN ERASURE: The Bonnie Prudden Way about her myotherapy program.
At 95 years young Bonnie is still helping us discover how to live without pain
and showing us that "You can get yourself well and you can keep yourself well!"

MEDICAL INTUITION
The interview on June 8, 2009 with Francesca McCartney was on the subject of
medical intuition. Francesca has a PhD in Energy Medicine and Intuition

My interview with Joseph Heller, the creator of Hellerwork, covered everything
from how he started as an engineer in the space program to the evolution of
Hellerwork today. He began as a Rolfer in 1972 and became the first
president of the Rolf Institute in 1975 but left in 1978 to create his own

The 50th program featured Mr. Stefan Ball of the Dr. Edward Bach Centre in Mount
Vernon, Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, Oxon in Great Britain. Mr. Ball is a staff
member and consultant at the center and co-author of Bach Flower

INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE
The world of medicine is slowly changing for the benefit of patients, it's no
longer a black-or-white choice between CAM and mainstream medicine. The
new trend is towards Integrative Medicine or utilizing the best of Eastern and
Western medicine to meet the needs of each patient. I spoke with Eleanor
D. Hynote M.D., a board certified internist, the Founder and Director of Phoenix
Well Care in Napa, California and the President and CEO of the American College
for Advancement in Medicine. There was a recent study of medical students
at 126 medical schools across the country and 74% thought that a blend of
Western medicine and CAM was better than either one alone so there is a fresh
perspective entering the field.

Women are choosing to have a Doula at their side during and after childbirth
today and medical research shows there are tremendous benefits for both mother
and baby. I spoke with Susan Tofflon, President of DONA International the
oldest and largest Doula organization, about women serving women. Susan is

Tom Bowen developed a unique style of therapy in
Australia, in the mid-1950s, and today there are several techniques based on his
work. I spoke with Deni Larimore Albrecht, administrative director of Bowen
Therapy International, about how this technique came to America. She and her
late husband Milton sponsored the first Bowen seminar held outside of the South
Pacific in 1989, which led to their founding of Bowen Therapy International, the

BEE THERAPY

AYURVEDA
Ayurveda is
the planet's oldest evidence-based medical system. Bhaswati Bhattacharya, MD,
has been formally trained as a scientist, international public health specialist
and family doc, and now practices as a holistic physician. In addition to being
trained in ayurveda by apprenticeship, called gurukala, she has degrees
in pharmacology, neuroscience, international public health, medicine, nutrition
and ayurveda from universities including Penn, Harvard, and Columbia. She
teaches ayurveda at The Dinacharya Institute in New York, and lectures about
ayurveda and CAM around the world. She is a clinical assistant professor of
family medicine at Weill-Cornell Medical College in NYC.

Body-Mind Training. Developed in China in 1990 IBMT is one of the newest,
